South Yorkshire test centre

Welcome back to our series covering all the test centres we cover—one county at a time! This series includes articles covering test centres in Greater ManchesterWest Yorkshire and East Yorkshire. In this article, however, we’re turning our attention to the five practical test centres in South Yorkshire.

Read on for handy fact files on the South Yorkshire test centres, including stats and pass rates, together with stories of the people who passed with us (fast!) throughout the county.

The first South Yorkshire test centre we’re turning our attention to is Barnsley. You can find this test centre to the west of Barnsley town centre. As you would expect, it’s an ideal location for any learners in the Barnsley area, but it also serves as a great alternate option for those living in Rotherham, Wakefield, or the north of Sheffield.

This test centre’s location, near to both the A628 and Barnsley Hospital, means that busy, urban road conditions are likely. However, it’s only a short drive to more rural routes such as Hermit Lane and the village of Higham, so you’ll need to be a good all-rounder! To get prepped, check out our comparison of urban and country driving.

Amongst those who passed with us at this test centre is Peter, who left us this fantastic review:

Brilliant and easy! No messing around trying to book theory or practical tests. PassMeFast were always in touch with me, updating me on any changes. Would definitely recommend to anyone!

Next on our list is the Doncaster test centre, which is located a couple of miles to the north-east of the town centre itself. Public transport does link the town to the test centre—but why worry about that? PassMeFast offers home and workplace pickups, meaning less hassle for you. Just one of the ways we help our learners to avoid test day nerves!

Though the test centre is on the outskirts of Doncaster, you’re not totally out of the woods when it comes to busier road conditions. That’s because the test centre is close to both the A18 and A630. Of course, this means that you’re likely to encounter the roundabout that acts as a junction between the two roads, alongside a wide mix of other road features.

Tricky conditions such as these didn’t stop Ivan from passing here, though—here’s his pass photo!

Rotherham‘s practical driving test centre is just a mile from the town centre. Of course, Rotherham learners are best placed to take advantage of this location. However, since the centre is close to the middle of South Yorkshire, it’s an excellent alternate test centre for learners from across the county.

Test routes at the Rotherham centre will surely include A roads—after all, the test centre is on the A6123! Meanwhile, the A633, which runs past the Parkgate Shopping Park, may prove to be one of the busier sections of road you’ll need to face. Villages and rural roads are never far away here, though, so expect a diverse range of roads, junctions and pedestrian crossings.

Rotherham test centre was also the place where our learner Luke got his licence. Here he is right after passing:

Next, we turn to the biggest city in South Yorkshire: Sheffield. This city is lucky enough to have two test centres for learners to choose from, with Handsworth test centre being the easternmost of the two. It’s a perfect location for the eastern areas of Sheffield (especially areas such as Woodhouse, Crystal Peaks and Tinsley), and is a good option for Rotherham learners, too.

Though Sheffield is a city, it’s also an exceptionally green city. This means that, at the Handsworth test centre, you’re very close to rural areas, including the village of Swallownest. The nearest A road to the test centre is the A57. Don’t worry, though—you won’t need to head out to the Snake Pass on the other side of the city!

Amongst our many great customer reviews from learners who passed with us in Handsworth was this from Jack:

Really good course, with no complaints. Was very happy with how fast I got my test, and my instructor was very good. Would recommend to anybody.

Our second Sheffield test centre (and final South Yorkshire test centre!) is Middlewood Road. This centre is in the north of the city, and while it’s especially well located for those in areas such as Hillsborough and Malin Bridge, it’s also the test centre of choice for learners across western and central Sheffield.

Busier areas which may crop up on your test include the area around Hillsborough Stadium and the nearby A61. It won’t be long, however, until you’re further out of the city, towards the twisting roads of the villages dotted around the northern edge of Sheffield.

Our featured pass story from Middlewood Road comes from Rebecca, who left us this lovely review:

After 4 fails years ago I lost hope of passing, but decided to book a 5 hour course. My instructor was Claire, who was brilliant at giving me the confidence that I could do it. 2 days later, I passed my test!
