Meet a Booking Agent: Chris

Here at PassMeFast, we may offer a super speedy, efficient way of passing—but we’re not machines. Nope, the beating heart of our driving school is our wonderful office team. They’re the ones making sure each and every driving course goes as smoothly as possible. That’s why we give them a little attention in our Meet a Booking Agent series!

In this post, we’ll be interviewing Chris, who joined the team back in September 2019. Though he’s a relative newbie to the company, he has already shepherded plenty of students through their course. In fact, to date, he’s seen over 50 of them pass—nice work, Chris! Now, let’s hear what he has to say about his experience as part of our team…

About Chris

Age: 32

Do you have a driving licence? No

What do you do to relax? I love to watch programmes about true crime and forensics. Yes, I am gross!

What are your hobbies and interests? I only have one hobby, really, and that is singing—I sing in a choir! It’s not just an ordinary choir, though: we only sing DISCO! I also love cooking and going to parties, and I’m a collector of Doc Martens footwear.

Chris at PassMeFast

When did you join PassMeFast? September 2019

What made you decide to join PassMeFast? I wanted to do something different to what I’d been doing before. I’d been managing teams in call centres for years and I had lost my way in terms of doing what I loved: making people happy. I also wanted to work for a company that really valued me and my work, with a smaller-scale office.

What’s your favourite thing about being a Booking Agent? I love many things—the people I work with are amazing, and it really has a family feel in the office. My favourite thing, though, is when I make that phone call to my students on test day and they tell me they’ve passed!

What’s the funniest thing that’s happened since you started working at PassMeFast? Finding out that most of the people in my office don’t know how to take the foil lid off a glass bottle of milk!

What’s your favourite pass story? I had a student with a super-tight deadline, as they were leaving the country two days after their test. On test day, I was about to call the student to see what the result was when my phone rang. It was the student’s driving instructor, and I could tell by the way he said “hello” that it was bad news. He proceeded to tell me that the student failed terribly, with 16 minors and 5 serious faults, and that he’d need to take more lessons. Cue me, very flustered, saying: “They can’t add more hours! They leave the country in two days! I can’t get them another test in a day!” That’s when I realised that the driving instructor and student, knowing how much work had gone into managing the course with such a tight turnaround, had absolutely stitched me up! In fact, the student had passed—and with only one minor fault, which is amazing! After the jig was up, I could hear both the student and instructor belly-laughing through the phone!

What’s the most common problem learners come to you with? I get a lot of people asking about the theory test. Although I don’t drive (yet!), I have sat three theory tests and passed two of them! My advice would be to check out some of our great theory test study resources.

What’s the best piece of advice you’d give to new drivers? Listen to your instructor; remain calm; practice, practice, practice; and if you haven’t done your theory test yet, get studying!

Thanks to Chris for his sage advice and hilarious stories! That’s all for this post, but we’ll be back soon to introduce another member of the team.
