Greetings, PassMeFast readers! We’re back again with our latest monthly instalment in the Meet an ADI series. In this series, we shine the spotlight on our hardworking driving instructors—giving you a behind-the-scenes glimpse at their stories. In the past, we’ve looked at PassMeFast instructors from Greater Manchester, South Yorkshire and Greater London. Today, we’re heading over to West Yorkshire to meet local ADI Martin.
Martin joined the PassMeFast team all the way back in 2018 and has a whopping 15 years of teaching experience under his belt! Find out more about his story below!
What age were you when you passed your test? 17
How many times did it take you to pass? 2 times.
How long have you been an ADI? 15 years.
What was your first car? Vauxhall Viva.
What car do you drive now? Seat Leon.
What transmission is your car? Manual.
What’s your dream car? Aston Martin DB11.
What motivated you to become an instructor? Gratification for your work is so important.
Have you taught any family members to drive? Yes—I helped my daughter pass first time!
What’s your proudest moment as an instructor? Helping a lady with a disabled son pass her test, as life was a struggle for them both.
What’s the most enjoyable thing about being a driving instructor? When your pupil passes and then gives their friend your number as a recommendation!
And the most frustrating thing about being a driving instructor? Pupils cancelling lessons on short notice.
What’s your biggest pet peeve about other drivers? Not having respect for other people.
What’s your favourite pass story? A lady that had lessons for 4 years with another driving instructor, but never had the confidence to take the theory test—never mind the practical test. She came to me from a recommendation. She passed her theory test on her first attempt and then the practical straight away, all within 6 months!
What’s the craziest pass celebration you’ve seen? A pupil grabbed the examiner’s head to kiss him but was so excited that he almost pulled his head off!
What’s the most common thing people fail on? Rushing is the most common thing.
What’s the best piece of advice you’d give to new drivers? Take your time!
When did you join PassMeFast and why? 2018—I had a recommendation from another driving instructor.
What do you do to relax? I love family time and walking my dog Henry.
Do you have any hobbies or interests? Sports—football especially. I also like watching live music.
