We’re back yet again with another instalment in our Meet an ADI series! In the past, we’ve interviewed PassMeFast instructors from Greater London, South Yorkshire and Greater Manchester. Today, we’re heading over to County Durham to meet local ADI Dave!
Dave has been a member of the PassMeFast team since 2018 and has got 12 years of teaching experience under his belt! Keep on reading to find out more about his story!
What age were you when you passed your test? 18
How many times did it take you to pass? I passed first time!
How long have you been an ADI? 12 years.
What was your first car? Hillman Imp.
What car do you drive now? Citroen DS3.
What transmission is your car? Manual.
What’s your dream car? 1932 Ford V8 Roadster.
What motivated you to become an instructor? An opportunity to change someone’s life.
Have you taught any family members to drive? Yes—my son and daughter!
What’s your proudest moment as an instructor? Every time a pupil goes for the practical test. It doesn’t matter if they pass or fail. They have achieved something. The next stage is someone’s opinion.
What’s the most enjoyable thing about being a driving instructor? Changing someone’s life!
And the most frustrating thing about being a driving instructor? Lessons being cancelled on short notice.
What’s your biggest pet peeve about other drivers? Lack of signalling on roundabouts and consideration for others.
What test centres do you cover? Middlesbrough.
What’s your favourite pass story? A guy who struggled with concentrating for more than 20 minutes. He was so determined to prove his peers wrong—he would not give up. He passed after 7 attempts and changed his life that day!
What’s the craziest pass celebration you’ve seen? Probably the girl who jumped up and down for about 5 minutes after being told she had passed.
What’s the most common thing people fail on? Nerves play a big part in failing the driving test.
What’s the best piece of advice you’d give to new drivers? Be patient with other drivers—try and remember what your first lesson was like.
When did you join PassMeFast and why? 2018—as an independent instructor, it was an extra way of gaining pupils.
What do you do to relax? I’ve just started walking with headphones listening to my favourite playlist.
Do you have any hobbies or interests? Building and driving old hot rod Fords from the 1930’s.
